IMPLENTATION
Trimesters will consist of 3 marking periods containing one test at the end of each trimester. Each test would be an hour and half long, having two per day. The tests will be taken in the classrooms where each student has their class.
In between each test students will be given a 10 minute period in order to give them time to recoup, energize and settle in to their next classroom for their exam. Students who do not have a test during the 1st exam of the day are allowed to come in late. Those students who have a 1st exam but not a second are allowed to leave but must return for the continuation of classes at 10:50. Those who have no exams that day are excused during those test taking times but must come to school for abbreviated classes or will be marked absent.
After students take their exams, they will proceed to abbreviated periods. It will be up to the teachers on whether or not to teach new material, however no homework is allowed to be assigned during the assessments. Additionally, teachers will not be able to give other tests or quizzes during exams.
We plan to send our proposal to the Board of Education's Curriculum and Policy committees where it will be revised and brought to the full board for a debate and vote.
