IMPLEMENTATION
The school year will continue with the normal quarterly schedule with the possibility of exemptions in accordance with grades. A student may be exempt from taking a quarterly if their GPA (grade point average) in that class for the marking period is equivalent to a 4.0. This would mean students in a:
- CP Course will need an A average or above
- Honors Course will need a B+ average or above
- AP Course will need a B average or above
The students will be notified 1 week in advance before the start of the quarterly if they need to take it or not and their average will be determined as the grade that exists at the week prior to the start of quarterlies.
Additionally, students in AP courses who take their AP exams will be exempt from their fourth marking period quarterly.
When quarterlies begin, all of the students will report to their normal classrooms. The teacher will then divide the students. The students that need to take the quarterly will be sent to a different quiet room where a teacher for that course will proctor the exam. The students that do not have to take the exam will have a silent study hall during that period.
The quarterlies will be an hour long test that can not exceed the highest test or other grade that was given in that marking period. There will be up to two quarterly tests a day and every day will have designated periods to take the test.
We plan to send our proposal to the Board of Education's Curriculum and Policy committees where it will be revised and brought to the full board for a debate and vote. They will take into account the educational restrictions and social views of our community much better than we ourselves could do. They also have years of experience and are more knowledgeable on what the proposal needs or lacks.
